Jonsi concert at Oakland’s Fox Theater
It’s been a long time since I’ve witnessed true creative genius at a concert. My husband recently introduced me to the Icelandic artist Jonsi, and we had the privilege of seeing him perform live at Oakland’s Fox Theater. As a side note, the Fox Theater is stunningly beautiful and in my opinion has the best acoustics in the Bay Area.
Jonsi’s music is very hard to describe. He sings in English and in Icelandic, but for me, the lyrics seem insignificant compared to the grandeur and complexity of the music. His music is bold and mysterious and takes you on a journey, building to a point where you are left heartbroken.
I didn’t know what to expect seeing him live - I thought it would be impossible to pair visuals with his music genius - Turns out I was very wrong. As you can see in this video my husband took, his videos complement his music perfectly. I felt as though I was transported into a musical short story with illustrations.
The true test of a concert in my opinion is how long it stays with you. It will be a long time before my mind stops drifting back to Jonsi’s performance. What a rare treat!
Splash of orange

Our rose bushes are not only a beautiful unique color combination of red, orange and yellow, but extremely prolific! They typically give us flowers from April through October, and we are currently on the 3rd cycle of blossoms.
The other day I noticed an orange lady bug hanging out on a rose petal and wondered if he/she was attracted by the vibrant color? I sure was :)
Inspiration for californiablue jewelry
If you have a creative outlet, a common question you will receive from people is, “what is your inspiration?”
For me, when I create californiablue jewelry I am inspired by light, color, plants and water. All of these factors come down to one thing - where I live.

Recently our house was included in the home tour section of the wonderful blog, Re-nest.com. As we were being interviewed and the pictures were taken, I realized that my creativity was really born in this house. All of the detailing found in this house is truly inspirational. From the unique ceramic tiles to the beamed ceiling, it is clear that very creative minds were behind the craftsmanship of our home.
We feel very grateful to be living in this house and sharing it’s creative spirit.
Industrial yet natural

Zen Lotus stamped necklace with aquamarine
Valerie Tyler’s Etsy shop is composed of a unique collection representing the dichotomy of industrial and natural elements. Like many artists who are inspired by where they live, Valerie is inspired by the industrial and rust-belt areas of Cleveland, along with old architecture and bridges. She also
lives just steps away from a national park, with gorgeous expanses of green and nature.

Dotted Spotted Copper Dome Necklace
From these images of Valerie’s work you can clearly see how her distinct inspirations are combined to create a modern, earthy, organic style.

Spring inspiration

It is always fun to discover new shops on Etsy! I immediately was in love with urbandesign’s shop when I stumbled upon it. Her photographs evoke happiness and an undeniable natural beauty. The two photographs featured here are Maleah’s top picks for spring. Where ever you may be, these photos will bring the celebration of spring to you.
Based in Eugene, Oregon, Maleah is inspired by the stunning nature of the area and the never ending changes nature presents.

Simplicity and texture

Element Clay Studio is one of those Etsy shops that literally blows you away when you discover it. There is a perceived simplicity to Heather Knight’s work, and despite the wide range of items, there is an overall calculated consistency in presentation. The photography is not only crisp, but absolutely alluring.
What struck me in looking at her gorgeous pieces was the variety and perfect execution of texture. I honestly felt like I could feel her work by just looking at it. The Nesting Scallop Bowls, pictured incorporate a surprising combination of conflicting textures, smooth and jagged in the same piece.
What fresh, exciting work! I wish Heather best of luck with her innovative ceramics, and encourage everyone to stroll through her amazing shop!
P.S. Check out her stunning Etsy shop banner! As I struggle with mine, this gives me inspiration to keep it simple.
Inspiration - Music & Life
My husband introduced me to this video, Music & Life, narrated by Alan Watts. I thought it was perfect for my inspiration series as it always makes me think about how I find myself focusing on the future instead of enjoying the present.
The animation in the video (done by the South Park guys) is surprisingly charming, too. It makes a deep message very accessible. Enjoy, and happy Monday!
