The quintessential garden chair. During my recent trip to Paris with my sister, we spent a lot of time in the Jardin du Luxembourg. These spare green garden chairs are everywhere, inviting all who visit to sit back and watch all of the Paris activity unfold. I just loved the color (gentle green), and their simple design. I guess I’m drawn to designs that are clean and simple, but elegant at the same time.
From my research, it appears that these famous Luxembourg chairs date back to 1923. In 2000, Frederic Sofia was commissioned to redesign these famous Parisian symbols from the steel version to the lighter weight aluminum version.
I found a few stunning black and white photos taken of these famous chairs by the photographer, Raphael Haik, which attempt to tell the many stories to which these chairs have been witness over the years.
